IP Protection Level of Cooling Fan
June 01 , 2021
Cooling fans are widely used, and their application environments are different. In harsh environments, such as outdoors, damp and dusty places, cooling fans are generally equipped with waterproof grade, that is, IPXX.
IP is the abbreviation of Ingress Protection, and IP grade is the protection grade against foreign body intrusion of electrical equipment shell, which comes from IEC 60529, the standard of International Electrotechnical Commission, which was also adopted as the national standard of the United States in 2004. In this standard, for the protection of electrical equipment enclosure against foreign objects, the format of IP grade is IPXX, where XX is two Arabic numerals, the first mark number indicates the contact protection and foreign object protection grade, and the second mark number indicates the waterproof protection grade.
IP is the code used to identify the protection level in the world. The IP level consists of two numbers. The first number indicates the range of dust resistance of the equipment, I represents the level of preventing solid foreign objects from entering, and the highest level is 6; The second number indicates the degree of waterproof, P represents the level of preventing water ingress, and the highest level is 8. For example, the protection grade of industrial cooling fan, ventilation system fan and air radiator fan is IP54, which is the most basic waterproof grade for short, namely, three-proof paint. The process is to immerse the whole PCB board. Now, the highest waterproof grade that the cooling fan can achieve is IP68, which is completely isolated from the outside world by vacuum coating or glue filling.
The first digit indicates the dustproof index:
No. |
Scope of protection |
Description |
0 |
No protection |
No special protection for people or things outside |
1 |
Prevent the intrusion of solid foreign objects larger than 50mm |
Prevent the human body (such as the palm) from accidentally contacting the internal parts of the appliance, and prevent the intrusion of foreign objects of larger size (diameter greater than 50mm) |
2 |
Prevent the intrusion of solid foreign objects larger than 12.5mm |
Prevent people's fingers from touching the internal parts of the appliance, and prevent foreign objects of medium size (diameter greater than 12.5mm) from intruding |
3 |
Prevent the intrusion of solid foreign objects larger than 2.5mm |
Prevent tools, wires and similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 2.5mm from intruding and contacting the internal parts of the appliance |
4 |
Prevent the intrusion of solid foreign objects larger than 1.0mm |
Prevent tools, wires and similar small foreign objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 1.0mm from intruding and contacting the internal parts of the appliance |
5 |
Prevent foreign objects and dust |
Completely prevent the intrusion of foreign objects. Although the intrusion of dust cannot be completely prevented, the amount of dust intrusion will not affect the normal operation of the electrical appliance |
6 |
Prevent foreign objects and dust |
